Here is calm, the front is on the other shore
Postcards of French soldiers fighting in Çanakkale in 1915 and deployed in Bozcaada
13 February - 5 March, Canakkale State Fine Arts Gallery
On the occasion of the commemoration of the centenary of the First World War, the French Institute for Anatolian Studies (IFEA) and Bozcaada Local History Research Center are hosting a special exhibition. This exhibition consists of postcards sent from Bozcaada, where the French troops fighting on the Gallipoli Peninsula after the Çanakkale victory of the Ottoman Navy on March 18, 1915 were deployed as resting areas.
Nearly 300 Bozcaada postcards in the exhibition belong to the private collection of Bozcaada Local History Research Center founder Hakan Gürüney. These postcards reveal the brutal face of the war and shed light on the daily lives of the soldiers. Through these testimonies, the soldiers who sought some kind of cure in writing wrote down the post-war period, the peace calendar and their thoughts about their loved ones…
The exhibition is curated by historian Alexandre Toumarkine at Orient-Institut Istanbul and historian Loubna Lamrhari at IFEA and designed by İzzeddin Çalışlar.
The exhibition in Çanakkale was realized by CABININ-Çanakkale Biennial Initiative.
