Deniz Erbaş, Co-Curator of Sinopale 9, was in Sinop with Çanakkale Biennial Selection
The ninth edition of Sinopale, the International Sinop Biennial, which opened its doors on 23 September and attracted great interest of art lovers since the exhibition opening on 11 October at Sinop Historical Prison Cultural Centre, ended on 31 October. The biennial, which hosted many performances, workshops and exhibitions under the title ‘Before all Runs out: Cosmos of New Values’, was organised by Sinop Sustainable Development Association and coordinated by Hal Collective, an independent initiative founded by young artists and cultural managers in Sinop. The biennial was curated by Deniz Erbaş, Melike Bayık, Nil İlkbaşaran and İpek M. Sür.
While Sinopale succeeded in making a global and local impact with the collective effort and spirit of solidarity that ensured its continuity, the artists and participants who were the cornerstone of this process left a very valuable artistic legacy. The Çanakkale Biennial Selection consisting of works by Jakob Gautel, Mert Karaçıkay, Nikita Alexeev, Rüstem Aslan, met with art lovers at the Sinop Historical Prison Cultural Centre within the scope of Sinopale 9, the Ninth International Sinop Biennial, and formed a strong link in the sharing, solidarity and cooperation of the biennials in these two cities. We would like to thank Sinop for their hospitality.
