Marilena was born in 1955 in Bucharest, Romania. Lives and works in Bucharest.
The gender-aware work of Marilena Preda Sanc has been intertwined with feminist theories and practices since
the early 1980s. Trained as a mural painter, she has produced a body of work where her own life experience
merges with what she calls the eco-feminist vision with a human being in its center, the being spiritually
beautiful yet constantly transformed by the civilization created by humankind itself. In her own words, “every
human being is situated in the world through interconnections with its material and social dimensions; however,
my positive vision allows me to pursue the idea about our immersion into a spiritual cosmic hologram, which
is also the ethical space of poiesis”. In Globe, a series of destructive actions upon the terrestrial globe signify
wounds: in a metaphorical way, they invoke the sense of violence that has been continuously provoked throughout
history as a result of humankind’s incapacity to understand the world - not only due to the man’s disrespect for
the others, but also for the nature itself.
